10 Best Places to Visit in Spiti Valley

The following is a list of the best places in Spiti Valley that will make you feel better and desire to stay longer.
Take a look!

1. Kaza
2. Tabo
3. Dhankar
4. Pin Valley
5. Key Monastery
6. Kibber
7. Langza
8. Komic
9. Hikkim
10. Chandertal

1. Kaza

Since Kaza is in Spiti's headquarters, the bus will drop you off here. This expanding town can serve as a base for exploring the surrounding area, even though it isn't precisely a tourist attraction in and of itself. There are numerous lodging options in the town, including restaurants, backpacker hostels, hotels, and homestays. Starting your trip to Spiti Valley from Kaza is a great idea because it's where you can catch shared vehicles and local buses to different parts of Spiti. Also, some hotels in Kaza offer free WiFi, although the connection might not always be perfect.

2. Tabo

Built in 996 CE, the Tabo Monastery is home to the historic murals that have earned Tabo the title of Ajanta of the Himalayas. From the exterior, the monastic complex appears innocent, with a few sporadically placed mud houses and chortens. But as soon as you go inside, you'll be astounded by the majesty and scale of the murals, which have astonishingly endured a millennium of harsh weather. Scenes from Buddha's life and other Mahayana traditions are depicted in the paintings, and the level of detail and skill in these works of art by the unidentified artists is on par with the finest in the world.

3. Dhankar

Another millennium-old monastery in Spiti is called Dhankar, and it is located in the settlement of the same name. Although the road slightly deviates from the highway, it is around 36 kilometres from Kaza. The Dhankar Fort, which is thought to be even older than the monastery but is currently in poor condition, is another significant building in the area. The village's environment itself is Dhankar's main draw. It is situated more above the highway and appears to be clinging to the windswept cliff in some way. This viewpoint is difficult to put into words. Approximately one hour's climb separates the high-altitude lake known as Dhankar Lake from the settlement.

4. Pin Valley

Pin Valley in Kullu is adjacent to Parvati Valley. These two places are connected by the well-known Pin Parvati Pass Trek. This area, which is now a national park, is a photographer's paradise due to its sparsely populated landscapes. The sole significant community in the valley is Mud, which has excellent connections to Kaza. Since it's a national park, there's a good chance you'll see some of the elusive snow leopard and other Himalayan species here.

5. Key Monastery

Built in the eleventh century, Key, also known as Kee Gompa, is another significant monastery in Spiti. Due to its unique structure, it is immediately visible and only 14 kilometres from Kaza. Valuable paintings and manuscripts are among the numerous priceless objects kept in one of the biggest monasteries in the area. This is an additional monastery with accommodations in the form of a guest house.

6. Kibber

Slightly above Key on the same road lies Kibber village. In addition to being a lovely community with lots of homestays, Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary is accessible from this village, where snow leopards can occasionally be seen. It is also the beginning point of the extremely challenging high-altitude trip known as Kanamo Peak, which is becoming more and more well-known these days.

7. Langza

Million-year-old fossils that inform us of a time when the Himalayas were replaced by a sea may be found all around Langza. Aside from it, Langaza's spectacular scenery of the high latitude plains is the main reason to visit. An additional feature is the enormous Buddha statue that dominates the village. Nowadays, Langaza is home to a large number of eateries and homestays.

8. Komic

At about 4600 metres, Komic is one of the world's highest motorable villages. It can get very cold, particularly on overcast days. Situated considerably higher than the settlement is Komic's very old monastery.

9. Hikkim

This quaint village is well-known throughout the world since Hikkim is home to the highest post office in the world. Not only can you meet the postmaster here, but you can also visit the post office to send and receive postcards to and from friends and family.

10. Chandertal

Nestled at a summit of around 4300 metres, Chandratal, also known as Chandratal, or Moon Lake, is a high-altitude lake. Hiking or renting a car across a challenging route are your two options. You can spend the night camping close to the lake (camps are already there). Moreover, the Chandra River originates from there, eventually joining Bhaga at Tandi to become Chadrabhaga (Chenab). Naturally, the views are breathtaking. In the summer, this is a great place to camp, though it might be challenging in the winter. The lake can be reached in a number of ways. There are now two kilometres separating you from the lake on the motorable road, or you can hike from Batal.

Conclusion

Indeed, Spiti doesn't require an introduction anymore. In the past several years, it has gained a lot of popularity, and many people are eager to visit.
You must be mindful of the fact that the Spiti Valley offers countless activities and places to explore. a wealth of fascinating places and undiscovered gems. Experience the exhilarating environment, learn about intriguing monasteries, and go river rafting. Engage in conversation with amiable residents to completely experience their lively culture. From the magnificent Pin Valley National Park to the historic Key Monastery, Spiti Valley has much to offer. Your senses will be captivated by this high-altitude desert region, whether you choose to camp under the stars, walk to DhanKar Lake, or simply unwind by the Spiti River.
